About us

We, the FSR (short for "Fachschaftsrat", known as students council, student representatives or students commitee), are happy to help you with questions regarding your studies. We are mathematics students ourselves, standing up for students from our department and partly participate in other bodies as well. You can contact contact us anytime and we take your concern very seriously but please bear in mind that we are all volunteers so we ask you for a little patience and your understanding if something might not go exactly as you have imagined.

The FSR is a officially elected body sponsored by the AStA. Elections are held once a year at the beginning of the semester and all students of a department can vote. Would you like to contribute to good study conditions? Feel free to contact us, we can tell you more about it and always look forward to welcome new members.

By the way, the FSR room (T30) as well as some surrounding study rooms are usually open (even if no one is in there) and serves as meeting point for all mathematics students to get together, study, chat or play games. They are located in the TG, a floor between ground floor and the first floor, only accessible via the staircase. (If you can't use the stairs, ask at the reception. There is also a goods lift) We have a microwave, a kettle, as well as some drinks and snacks at one’s own expense. So, if you find yourself needing a short break just come by. You also have the opportunity to borrow books, mostly German though, from our reference library (for a small deposit) to study in books to study in one of the rooms next to the FSR room. In addition, we enable you access to examination records provided by other students, also mostly in german, although the golden rule is: if you read one of those protocols you have to write one yourself. That is how we ensure access for future students and maintain this service.

Should that still not be enough for you, we hold several events throughout the semester such as games nights, chess tournaments, an annual barbecue and a Christmas party – just to name a few. Those events are for everyone, so even if you don’t speak German make sure to stop by. We will advise you in good time about all events in our newsletter, also in german only, as well as on our information board in the foyer.

If you have questions, comments or suggestions please feel free to contact us anytime. We are looking forward to seeing you!
